I'm not a knitter. I've tried. But it confuses me. I'm a crocheter. Which makes me much happier! Despite having accidentally learnt to crochet using US terms, I find it much easier to understand and projects seem to come together quicker too. I still need to write a blog about my first ever knitted garment which was last years LAD Cable Jumper but this one is gonna have to take the lead because IT'S CROCHET!!!!
I can't remember how I found Honse Design on Instagram, but I remember that as soon as I saw this pattern (below from her etsy store) I knew I had to have it! I bought the pattern after Christmas and ordered the wool from Love Crafts shortly after New Year. As usual I start a project then get distracted by other things (least of all Lockdown 3.0 and home schooling the kids) so it took me until the end of Feb to finish it. It's also one of my Make Nine projects and number one to be ticked off.
I had a wee problem about half way through understanding the neckline instructions but the designer was super helpful over DM and sorted me out... turns out I was just being an idiot!
I made a couple of tweaks to the pattern. I made the collar band slightly longer as when I'd finished the required number of rows it wouldn't reach around my head so I kept adding rows until it would!
I had a similar problem with the cuffs which are made in the same way. Maybe I crochet too tight??? Well anyway, I added about 4 more rows and it was fine. I'm not 100% happy with the cuffs, they just don't seem very tidy. I know I dropped some stitches by the end so the top looked a little wobbly. But this is hidden as it joins the main jumper so I'm not about to start again!
I adore the colour of this jumper and I think it will be a great one for keeping me cosy (although typically the weather has just started to warm up!) but I'm not sure how I'm gonna get coats over those sleeves!
